I have a mbp 15inch and use it as my main computer at home. Until now I have used it without any complaints and still don't have any. But I want to get a monitor and keyboard to use my mbp as a "desktop" while I have it at home. The resolution on the 2208FWB is 1680x1050 and I was wondering if the mbp 15inch would support that. And am I able to use the dvi connector that came with the computer?

Also, how do you set up the mbp so that when you have it connected to the monitor, you can close the lid and have it function as a desktop? Would this work with my speakers, wireless keyboard and mouse usb connected to the laptop?

    Thanks

lol yeah... MBP will easily support that.

Just connect it via DVI cable.

And uhh.. I don't recommend running your MBP while closed. Not... at.. all.

How come? I see endless threads with pictures of mbp being used like a "desktop". Is it to do with heating?

yeah basically. A lot of heat gets dissipated through the keyboard. Plus why don't you dual screen it and use two screens at once?

Sometimes you dont need dual screens, but yea essentially running with it closed usually causes it to run hotter. Hotter usually means faster failing gpu.

I just kept mine off to the side and open when i use it with an external monitor.

you have anything to worry about by running it with the lid closed. the heat isn't going to get extreme unless you will be doing CPU/GPU intensive tasks that max out your system. pick up a keyboard/mouse you like, get the DVI cable, hook it up to your monitor and you're good to go.
