    Hey guys,

You've probably heard this all before but I have just found this site and am hoping you can help.

I have an External HDD with files from a PC (movies/tv shows/photo's, etc) and I have files (movies/tv shows/photo's, etc) on my mac that I have downloaded and I am wanting to consolidate them all onto the ext HDD.

When I plug it into my mac it recognises the drive, lest me play the files, but won't let me transfer the mac files onto it. I have downloaded MacFuse Tuxera but do not know how this will help in transferring the files.

Help please. I am also a pretty basic computer skills person so if there is any help please dumb it down a bit for me :)

The drive is in NTFS format also.

    thanks

NTFS write functionality is disabled by default in OS X because it's unstable.

One solution is to back up your external HDD, repartition it as FAT, and restore your data. If you don't want to do that, I suggest Paragon NTFS. It's not free, but seems to be the safest alternative to get NTFS write functionality on OS X. A free alternative is NTFS-3G, but there are some reports of problems.

    Additional comments here.

forget FAT32 if you ever reformat a drive for both os's use EXFAT works on 10.6/10.7 and xp on. and does not have the size limits etc of the older FAT ststems

for now NTFS in lion does not seem too stable.
