I recently reformatted my Mac, but did not backup my music. I have quite a bit of music on my PC desktop in itunes, some of which was purchased from the itunes store.

How can I get all that music onto my MBP?

How computer savvy are you, and do you have the feature turned on where you let iTunes organize your music folder?

I also made the switch recently. What I did, was this (I do not let iTunes organize my folder):
    - Moved my entire music folder to my Mac
    - Moved the file iTunes Music Library.xml from my PC to the folder "Music/iTunes" on my Mac.
    - In iTunes Music Library.xml, there are all tracks in your iTunes library with info such as ratings, and where the files are located, so what I did was I replaced all old paths on my PC, to the new ones on my Mac. This was really simple using the Find and Replace features in TextEdit.

...so now my library works just like it did in XP, with all my ratings, play counts, last played, etc intact.

yes, you can use ipod or external HDD.

just copy ur "iTunes" music folder the default is under "My Document" -> "My Music" folder. then transfer them to "Music" folder on your mac.

alternatively you can back up your music in itunes to a CD/DVD media.

in iTunes. go File -> back up to dic.
