I want to reformat my Macbook. I bought it in November 2006, its a 2ghz, 2gb Macbook. It is running OSX 10.4
I just want to know the process. Stick int he OSX CD, ask for a clean install, and than what?
I just want to make sure I have all the drivers and updates after I am done reformatting so I'm not missing anything, and everything behaves as new.
Do you know where I can do the complete reinstall of ALL drivers and updates after reformatting?
And also, the total RAM this particular macbook will take?
-
Yeah, its really simple, you just follow the steps and press Erase and Install. All the drivers will be done for you, just let it do its work. And when you boot up again, just do a Software Update for the latest updates.
The Core 2 Duo MacBook supports up to 3 GB of RAM. -
So I reformatted, it installed the Drivers that came with the 2 osx discs, but aren't they out of date since I got this computer in Nov2006?
And after reformatting, it started doing a software update. Are these software updates for every program and everything?
Do I have to update anything else individually or am I completely up to date?
My current macbook has 2gb of RAM, so I'm guessing 1gb on each side. I would take out one of the 1gb sticks, and put in a 2gb to make it a 3gb right?
Would this void warranty, and what are some recommended 2gb sticks to install?
Thanks so much for your help!

If there's nothing that shows a need to update in Software Update, then you're up to date!
And there's no new drivers necessary, because there was no new hardware. You're still using the same MacBook as you were in November 2006.
No, changing the RAM doesn't void your warranty . So yes, if you take out one 1 GB RAM stick and put in a 2 GB RAM stick, that will make 3 GB of RAM. Doesn't really matter where you get your RAM, as long as the brand isn't unknown. -

I think it is all up to date. Thank You!
Anyone know the best resolution setting for a macbook? -
The native resolution, 1280x800.

Ok, as we are on the subject...
In Win I usually created another partition where I stored all of my data but no software; this way I could easily format the C partition without the need to backup everything.
How can something similar be achieved on Mac? (without having Time Machine, still on Tiger here)
