Before I bought the MBP I had never used a mac before and was therefore a bit of a risk considering that I was investing a LOT of my money into the notebook. Reviews and comments on this forum however drove me to take the plunge and I am so glad that I have 'cause at least for the moment I won't be switching back to Windows! So i just want to say thanks to people that helped me make the choice over on this apple forum!

I find the Mac OS just so much easier to use, so much faster and far more reliable than Windows. I only ever use XP for gaming on my mbp as I can run all the programs I want on the Mac OS - speed download for rapidshare, guitar pro for guitar tabs, microsoft office the same as Windows, iTunes for music (although sooo much faster and more reliable on the Mac), mactheripper for DVDs...

So for anyone at all considering the switch I would think seriously about Apple and especially the MBP, i couldn't have asked for more in my laptop! And I'm so glad that I steered away from Asus, Dell and Sony as I have definaley found my perfect laptop in the MBP.

Sounds good, onthenighttrain! Great to hear you're enjoying your Mac, and I certainly agree with a lot of things you noted :).

Great to hear. I will most likely be placing my MBP order later today. WhooHoo!! Considering how many other people are "waiting for leopard", I imagine I'd be waiting another month just for the thing to ship after I order it.
So, screw waiting, ordering today, and will upgrade to leopard next month (hopefully for free).

Yeah, that's exactly how I felt before buying the MBP. Was looking at Alienware, Dell and Asus laptops. And now I look at them and laugh, no fence, of course :D

    Loving my first Mac! :p

So, the next question for someone planning on taking the plunge is: matte or glossy?!? I go back and forth on which one to get. Do you have 15inch model?

I have to take the opportunity to echo onthenighttrain's sentiment. I was dubious, but sure am pleased with the switch to Mac. As for desertmike, I still go for the glossy! It is SOOOO nice to look at, and the glare is not troublesome at all. In fact, I'm using it in front of a window now, with no problem at all.

This question gets asked so often, I'm considering adding it to the Mac Switcher's Guide :D.

There is no better type...both are different, and some love glossy, some love matte.

First of all, where would you be using the MBP most? Indoors in a dim room, in a lecture hall, outdoors, etc. Glossy screens make reflections while matte screens do not.

Glossy makes colours look richer and deeper than they actually are. This is nice for those that look at photos and movies, but in a way, glossy makes the photos and images look better than they actually are; this would be a disadvantage in say the printing business where they need the colours on the screen to be exactly what would be on paper.

If you really cannot decide between the two, then I suggest you go matte. There's nothing to hate about matte, but you may absolutely detest the glossy's reflections.

Go with the glossy. Unless you absolutely reside in an environment that has extreme overhead lighting or direct sun exposure go with the shiny screen. The glossy screen isn't as bad as some people think. I actually use my MB in the car all the time. As long as I don't have the sun (the big bright orb) directly shining onto the display I'm fine. Indirect sunlight on the display is fine. I actually turn off the backlight and let the sunlight light the screen all the while increasing my run time.
