Let assume MB of even MBP are announced the 9th or a week or 2 later. I'm pretty sure Jobs will say something like "These are going to ship in 2-3-4 weeks". I don't think a lot of apple computer where available the day after the announcement. So on best case this puts the actual shipping date for october, but it could be as far as november. Plus, you have to take into account that there is gonna be a high demand and this will create delays (just look at the T400 from Lenovo... Some people are waiting for over a month and the product is already on the market).

well, what im hoping for is that they are released within 30 days of september 15th. im planning on buying a mbp on september 14th, and i believe that october 14th is a tuesday. so that gives me an extra tuesday to exchange it for the new one incase it gets released on that tuesday.

Actually, most of the time Apple products are available for purchase the day they're announced. Lately though, there's been a little more waiting than usual (iPhone 2.0 Software, iPhone 3G), but usually Macs are available right away.

Yeah, I noted most of the time :). And to help my case, Apple's had a lot longer than usual to have its Macs ready, I believe they're holding back not because of production problems but because of the bad timing. So there's no reason they'll make customers wait another two-three weeks if products are ready (and have records of being) to be delivered.

so if one buys a mbp spetember 14th and if a new mbp is released within 30 days one could upgrade to this newer version?

Apple has a 14 day return/exchange policy with a 10% restocking fee on open items. Custom built (CTO) items cannot be returned or exchanged unless proven defective.
Best Buy and Fry's are 15 days.

As said it's 14 days, but is it really worth it? setting up the computer getting all you stuff organized just to start over in 14 days?

I think the assumption is that one would buy the MBP on the 14th and let it sit in the box until an upgrade is announced. At least that's what I was planning doing. Worst case scenario- the two weeks goes by and I toss that puppy up on craigslist. At least I'll have an itouch to console myself in the interim.

what? why? The prices don't change.

Oh yeah free ipod touch, but if your exchanging/taking it back I think you have to give that back too, not sure. But I think I read something about that.

I purchased a MB only to have a better model come out a few weeks later. I picked up the new model along with a firewire cable. I transferred my data and wiped the old machine and took it back along with the cable. There was a 24 hour period where Apple had 2 Macbooks and a firewire cable worth of my money. In the end, I only paid for one Macbook plus restocking. Migrating settings via firewire meant I had my machine cloned to the new system in minutes not hours. There is really no point to buying one early if you aren't going to use it.

btw, the url for the image above is munged... there is a leading quote...

I wanted a machine and couldn't wait. I ended up getting the entry level Macbook Pro. This machine is great! Everything I have thrown at it just flies. If you can wait, wait. If you need it now, buy it. Good Luck !
