I recently purchased a 13" macbook pro and I am wondering what the thoughts are on skins for this thing. I got a nice one for christmas and have been using it with no issues for a few months, Its a very soft microfiberish material on the inside and leather on the outside and is made by macally. I mainly have it as I take my laptop with me daily to work and I use it many places, quite often when I am a passenger in a car etc.. and I am fairly rough on stuff in general so I thought I would like the extra layer of protection however this thing gets fairly hot and I don't want to cause any issues due to using a skin so I just wanted thoughts/suggestions.
    Thanks in advance

Since you don't mention exactly which skin you have it is sort of hard to comment on it directly?

If you mean one that stays on the machine while in use.....I have had bad luck with all I have tried.
If you mean a sleeve that you remove the machine from to use then unless it is made of sandpaper inside how could it possibly hurt anything?

The macbook pro is a great machine and apple have placed the fan in a great place meaning that the whole of the bottom can be covered with something. I use one of these http://www.xgearlive.com/catalog/for-macbook and they're great. During normal and 100% processor use, they're fine and the case stays at expected temps. PRotection and luxury :-D

How have you had bad luck with the ones that stay on the machine? And
yes I mean one that stays on the computer at all times, so it is a piece that snaps onto the bottom of the laptop protecting the laptop at all times when in use and a piece that snaps onto the outside of the screen to protect the aluminum backing, it could hurt things in the sense that it insulates the computer a bit more and if the chassis was designed to dissipate heat a certain way it would no longer do that effectively, a lot of people use cooling pads and what not under there laptops, this is almost the opposite of using a cooling pad. How ever it does leave the cooling vent at the back completely open, I just want to make sure I am not doing more damage then good.

For the way you described using your laptop, I reckon its a good idea having a skin on it. I can't see it affecting the laptop too much. Can you remove it with ease when you aren't moving the laptop frequently?

Yea its easily removable, I remove it quite frequently just to make sure nothing has got between it and the computer and is scraping up the inside, so far nothing has gotten in, and it certainly has protected the underside from getting small scrapes etc from being moved around on tables and desks and so on.

I have tried several of these and some are better than others from my experience.
It seems most fit too oddly to really be reassuring and they can scratch the machine which the opposite of prootecing it?

I like the Incase model on my Black Macbook but so far can not find one for the Unibody.

The Speck, and Xgear and one other I can't remember all were returned.

The Xgear fit the best but I could not remove it and had to BREAK it off thus scratching the machine.
I am pissed to say the least.

I ended up using the Mack Truck so I just leave it in there and do not worry too much about anything in transport but it provides little protection when in use.

I have the Air in a Waterfield sleeve, again no protection i use.
