The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. This is what happens when you have an absurd closed ecosystem and terrible designs which cannot be repaired. Their machines are designed to be replaced in 3 years - not to be repaired - and they refuse to admit when their crappy designs are flawed (such as the keyboards on the new Macbook Pros). They do not make machines for real professionals anymore: the iMac Pro is a joke, the Macbook Pro is a joke which isn't funny, and the Mac Pro is a useless, outdated trash can. The only people who buy them are people who are blitheringly ignorant of how a computer works, or fanboys/girls who have a fetish for aluminium and glass.

Microsoft does the same exact thing. They only replace, no repair options were available at the time I dealt with them for the surface pro's

The entire mobile industry is moving in this direction, I'm not surprised. Razer is exactly the same. My friend had a blade crap out 2 months out of warranty and was charged $1200 to change the motherboard, for a computer that has an inherent cooling design flaw. Everbody wants to be like Apple it seems

Industry is taking a turn for the worse.

Mobo prices for out of warranty repairs are always like that..

Asus Asomething that costs 300€ with a dual core celeron or i3? Thats 600€ for a refurb mobo, plus work, plus taxes..

I was raised in the same environment in a New York Italian (loud) / Catholic / Mechanic etc etc. I guess the only difference is the Catholic in my Fathers side which in part raised me for a time. Bar soap does not mix with any food you may eat later, either shape up or get used to bar soap. As a highly opinionated introverted conservative, I dont get along with anyone to begin with.

However, I still feel swearing only diminishes an argument or point. Its not a transgression on your character, just a transgression on the value of the message.

Not really adding to the convo, but I have a mid-2012 MBPro and it's running great; however, I have upgraded the RAM to 16GB and added two SSDs in Raid 0, but otherwise no issues besides hardware ones :(

yes this is largely the stereotype, either hipsters who think Apple/Steve Jobs/Tim Cook are gods, old people who automatically associate higher cost with higher performance, or people who buy for the label "prestige". Apple exited the professional sphere long ago

There's also those that have just been in the ecosystem too long. Don't know if it's true anymore but SMS doesn't work the same way as it does on Android or blackberry
