I really want one of the new 13" macbook pros for the design, general update, weight , size, ddr3 ram, etc. However I need to run FCE and later on if all goes well FCP? Should I switch to the new base MBP with the free ipod or would that be stupid?

The screen resolution and size is less than your MBP, but in terms of performance, even the lowest end 13" MBP would match your MBP if not beat it.

It all depends on if you're comfortable running Final Cut on a 13" screen with 1280x800 resolution.

LOL, I'm not comfortable running Final Cut on a 24" screen. :p I couldn't even imagine running it on a 13".

Im not comfortable running it on this screen now lol so 2" would be equally as annoying pretty much. Although my situation is very mobile for the next few years, I always can get an external monitor, or hook up to whatever tv is around me. I bought this model for the extra graphics power for games. However Im just going to get a separate way more powerful Asus laptop for that now.

..Uh no. His macbook pro is faster than the new 13". Performance wise you are taking a downgrade.

If I was in that position I would not upgrade.

Keep what you have, you have a great Macbook Pro. IMO, you're getting caught up in the "Latest and Greatest" trap. So many members on this forum would love to be fortunate enough to have your current Macbook Pro as many of us still have old iBooks. Your computer is not "OLD" as you put it. Just enjoy and appreciate what you have and wait until it starts getting long in the tooth before you think about upgrading then it will be worth it.
