Hey guys... I'm considering buying a notebook and thought of purchasing the 12" iBook. I already have a powerful enough desktop running Windows Xp which I can do all my gaming on. I would use the notebook for web browsing, text documents, etc. This would be my first computer running the mac osx. I wouldn't be able to buy it until mid-late summer because I need a job (I'm a college student). I'm sure the intel-based ibooks will be out by then. Do you think they would be more expensive than the ibooks are now? If thats the case, I won't be buying one.

    hello
the iBook is perfect for web browsing and casual computer using.. if u wont b able to buy till mid-late summer
i daresay intell ibooks will b out by then
and the price will b around a 1000 as it is rite now
if u havn't noticed the macbook pro's or the iMacs didn't have a price increase so that's a good indication that the intel iBook (or macbook) will not see a price increase either

so u'll b able to buy an intel ibook by the time u can buy it =)
    cheers to the macs

I was thinking of one too, but I read that they will be coming out with a 13 inch model with built in webcam for around a grand sometime this spring, so I will most likely hold out for one...

I recommend holding out for an Intel-based iBook if possible - they'll have more updated technology and better performance/battery life.

I just saw one here for 799....never seen them this low...thought apple pretty much was the same price everywhere...do you think they are alredy starting to drop in price because of the new Intel chip?

there is a microsoft office made for apples already, if whether or not they will run office natively, they will soon, and if not soon enough there is rosetta for the version thats already out.

The Intel-based Macs will be able to run the PPC version of MS Office through Rosetta as others have stated. In addition, MS has pledged to make versions of MS Office for the new Intel based Macs.

I would wait for an Intel iBook, especially since you won't be purchasing until this summer and the iBooks are set to come out this Spring.

Apple is transitioning their entire line to Intel chips so it's probably wise to hold off. Also, the rumored improvements to the iBook sound great, particularly the 13.3" widescreen and built in iSight.

Microsoft Office should not be a problem as MS will be developing a new Office for Intel Macs and until then the current version of Office will run through Apple's Rosetta.
