I would recomend waiting for the Intel iBooks, unless you absolutely need a new laptop now. The G4 is in becoming old technology and support for it is going to wain over the next couple years. In about three years, there will probably be no more support for the PPC architecture. Apple hardware is very hardy and can easily be a usable machine for more than 3 years. The Intel will be supported for a longer period of time and be more "future-proofed" than the G4.

I agree... waiting for the intel-based iBooks sounds like a better idea.

I also agree you should wait. My wife is patiently (well, gnawing her arm off actually) waiting for the Intel iBook anouncement. Because like dragonesse mentioned she realizes that she'll probably have that machine for a very long time (she's still using an iBook she bought in 2002) and I would expect Apple to phase Power PC code out as quickly as practical, much as they did when they were killing off OS 9.

Yes, wait for the intel ibook. It should only be a couple (not exact!!) more months and it will be out. I have an ibook g4, and although it is nice, then low end mac mini is now much more powerful, even with the integrated gpu.

I would wait. The new iBooks (that might be called macbooks (not pro!)) seem to have alot of cooler features that the g4 doesn't have.

I thought that the developers will start to use universal binaries so that the software supports PowerPC and Intel processors?

They are, but it could be possible that eventually (no idea when) they will maybe just compile x86 binaries. But i don't see that happeing for several years when most people have will have upgraded to intel macs.
