When i try to launch text edit, the icon just shows up on the bottom and no window shows up. When i right click on the icon its not responding. Should i just delete textedit and download it again. And where can i download it from?

Try deleting the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TextEdit.plist where ~ is the location of your home directory.

Be sure to look for Text Edit plist from your home folder. Home-Library-Preferences-com.apple.TextEdit.plist.

After you find and trash the file. Empty the trash and either restart your computer or log out and log back in. Emptying the trash is optional but it may be more effective in your case.

This will be a simple possible fix, but have you tried restarting the Mac? Sometimes little bugs will get fixed that way.

Yay it works now. Thanks guys. I wanted to use text edit with geektool. Its a pretty cool addition to the pref pane. "GeekTool is a nifty utility that incorporates text files, the output of shell commands and images onto your Mac's desktop." I use it to show a text edit file, and calendar.
