I'm posting this from a 15.4 in. MacBook Pro in Easton Center's Apple store in Columbus, OH. I can't say much, but here are my impressions:

    1. Heat. The case over the left speaker and on the left underside of the notebook are warm, but not uncomfortably so. It's certainly not cool enough to use as a true laptop, but it's also not hot enough to burn you.

    2. Weird noises. None. There are no mooing sounds, distortion from the speakers, or any of the other sounds of doom that have been reported.

I can't find the serial number, but if this is a very recent MBP, I wouldn't feel at all uncomfortable buying one as my college notebook.

    1. Thats where the adapter connects to the laptop, that's where mine gets warm but not hot - the other is the right side, near the screen as well, that's where the GPU is? because that gets warm while I'm gaming

    2. No weird noises for me as well - though the CD slot does make a weird choking noice whenever you load or eject a cd

The serial number is hidden underneath the battery pack - apple would not be so crude as to etch or leave a sticker on the outside!

The left side is also where the MBP's GPU resides, which is the main explaination for the heat, not because of the power connector.

They don't run terribly hot unless your gaming. That has been my experience.

It was interesting to compare the heat that the 15.4-inchers were producing to that of the 17-in. MBPs-even just sitting there with a screensaver running, the 17s were much hotter than 15.4in. ones running the same screensaver. That said, all of the Macs in the store seemed to exhibit none of the problems reported on the Web (of course, that was probably because of the fact that they were demo computers in the Mac store. )
