I haven't posted here for a while and I understand the extent to which this question has been overdone, but please bear with me.

I have a second generation (merom) macbook pro and just recently for the first time begun to game on it. With the back elevated temps hover at 80-85c with fans running at 6k RPM. While I know this doesn't pose any immediate threat of burning out my computer, I don't want to significantly reduce its lifespan. My question is has anything changed in the world of MBP cooling since 4 or 5 months ago? I remember the Zalmann cooler was highly recommended and was thinking about getting one. Is this still the 'best' or at least one of the 'better' choices? There was also one, if I recall correctly, without fans designed specifically for the MBP which cooled passively by dissipating heat through contact with the bottom of the case; it looked very gimmicky but claimed on the website some serious reductions in temperature. I can't remember the name, but is this one at all good?

Any other recommendations would be very welcome. Thanks.

I just use beer caps or a gel heat dissipating mat (same principle as the ones they sell in pet stores to keep animals cool when lying on the gel mat). This is no joke!

    cheers ...

i've been using erasers to elevate my MBP, haha. i'm trying to make a decision between passive cooling (gel mats etc) and active cooling (zalman coolers etc). does anyone know where i could find some tests to see which one is more effective?
