I have a question for you guys, a friend of mine who has one of the newer iBook G4s, looks like a 14" model, slipped and fell in the parking garage today with her notebook in her bag without a sleeve or other protection, the hardware seems fine, but when you shut the panel the lcd is slightly off center compared to the body of the notebook. I told her to call apple care because its still under warranty, but I was wondering if there is an easy fix, like the hinge popped free and wiggling it will fix it. Thanks in advance.

First off I hope your friend is ok.

Second, it really depends on the damage itself, a closeup picture could help, but it could also been that the plastic shattered or twisted.

I would recommend calling Apple, if they say its "abuse" just say that its Winter there in Michigan and theres ice all over! BUT I doubt they will say that, Apple Customer Service is pretty good.

I wouldn't try messing with it, as you might just make it worst.

Hope your friend is OK after the fall.

Apple Care excludes accidental damage, but there is no harm in calling.

If the unit is functioning propery, may I suggest it is taken to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store so that this incident will not disqualify the unit for future repairs.

It will be checked out by a genius and a note will be added to the ticket that the fall did not harm internals, if it checks out properly.

Good luck to your friend with this matter.

    Susan

Yeah, She's ok thankfully. I think I'll tell her to take it in to an apple store first chance she gets and get it checked out if tech support won't fix it. My guess is that it just bent a piece of plastic or something, but its worth getting it checked out anyway. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I mean I think if she tells them truthfully what happened, and a wink (apple store) she might get it fixed. I mean if not that really sucks.
