First of all, 40 minute wait.

Then, i ask the lady whether the black macbook (2.16Ghz) is the previous generation of macbooks, or whether it has the Santa Rosa. She said she can see what I can see, so she didn't know. I was like, wtf, you don't have to be a genius employee to know that. It just takes a basic level of reading and training.

Anyhoo, then I told her that in May 2007 when the new Santa Rosa macs came out, I bought the previous generation for $400 off the regular price: $200 for refurbished, plus another $200 off for buying the older model. But if I'm right and 2.16Ghz has the previous chip (she then said "i think you're right"), then shouldn't the price be reduced by another $200? because right now, it's just $200 cheaper than the regular black macbook 2.2Ghz with Santa Rosa. She then said refurbished products change their price from time to time.

Is that true? Can the refurbished models of the previous generation of macbooks be $400 off the regular price of new macbooks at one period, then suddenly only $200 cheaper?

    I hate unhelpful sales reps.

Answering your question - I don't believe prices jump so much.

I have an opposite experience. Today I had a chat regarding refurbished MBP and all my questions has been answered.

Is SantaRosa the latest platform? Merom is? and Penryn is the next?

When will be expecting mobile Penryn? Next year around?

Santa Rosa is a platform. Merom and Penryn is processors. They're two different things. Before Santa Rosa, it was the Napa platform.

The easiest way to identify Apple computers is by the processor speed. EveryMac is a good source for information about technical specifications.

a 2.16ghz is not a Santa Rosa MacBook. the clock speeds for the updated processors are 2.2ghz, 2.4, and 2.6, etc.

2.16 are the older clock speeds so it is definitely pre-SR

as far as the price, they can set it to whatever they want, there is no reason they need to price it to suit your needs.

and are you looking to get another one for someone else? there would be no point to upgrade from the current model you have.

Yeah it's for my brother. I was hoping I could get him a black one for $400 off, just like I did for me. but No, I know there's no point in upgrading from 2.0 to 2.2.

That's for the MBP. The SR MB is currently only available with either a 2.0GHz (T7300) or 2.2GHz (T7500).

Be careful not to confuse the new 2.0GHz (T7300) with older models such as the 2.0GHz (T2500) or 2.0GHz (T7200).

The only thing with the older chipset is the weak intel integrated 950 graphics. Sure, the X3100 still sucks, but as far as I can tell, atleast desktop animations do not lag.

Well, I remember M@lew said that the old MacBook had no issues with Vista Aero either. But I get what you mean.
