    Hey everyone,

I got the new aluminum macbook 2.4ghz and it is taking a long time to go to sleep. I cant figure out what it is. I close my lid and the apple logo takes about 4 seconds until is shuts off and another 30 seconds until the light starts to fade in and out. I've shut the lid of another macbook at an apple shop and they go to sleep instantly. What's going on? I'm freaking out!

    Please, I need help,
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,

Try clicking the apple logo on your menu bar and pick "sleep" then watch what happens. Your screen should fade to black immediately. If not, watch what is going on for clues to why sleep is taking so long.

If it sleeps right away using the menu bar, look in system preferences for what to do when you close the lid. I'm not sure, but perhaps it might be set to wait a while before sleeping when you close the lid.

You must be running a program that takes long to close or something. Try to make it go to sleep right after a re-start and see if it makes a difference..

It still takes sometime to got to sleep. I don't understand what it is. When close both standby via lid and start menu, both take sometime to go to sleep. After I restarted I immediately went to the start menu and pressed standby and it turn the screen off but then took a little bit of time to go to sleep. Much quicker than before, I only had iphoto, itunes and safari open to test the quick response. Then I thought, sweet! But after I woke it up again, I used it for around 5 minutes then shut the lid and it took a long time again. I'm freaking out, what could be the issue? I just want it to work! :(

My other iMac sleeps instantly, its amazing, but considering its a laptop - I'm giving it some slack. Like I said before, other macbooks sleep instantly when i close the lid. The apple logo turns of straightaway and it goes to sleep instantly. My laptop, the apple logo takes a bit to die off then it takes 20 - 30 seconds to go to sleep.

    Please, is there a solution?

    Regards,

if there is lots in ram, it will be copying the contents to the hard drive for safe sleep. this does make sleep take longer.

My guess is make sure you shut down all open programs and everything will be fine.
