I finally got my white MB on Friday (after a strange incident in which my MB got lost someplace between Apple and Fed EX).

So, I've spent the weekend playing with it and trying to figure it out. Still confused about lots of things, especially keyboard shortcuts and window sizing.

Anyway, I've just printed out my first document. It was great! The MB found my printer right away and printed it out with no problems. (My wife pointed out that my PC would have taken half an hour to get it to print properly.)

But... I can't figure out the type sizes. I tried (Verdana and Times New Roman), with sizes like 12 and 14. Printed out TINY. Went up to 24 and still pretty small. The next size up is 36, which was HUGE. Ended up with 24 and hit the Larger keys twice. Still small, but ok.

I must be missing something. Can anybody help me to figure out the Font Sizes?

By the way, I am so glad that I switched! I like the MB even more than I thought I would. Everybody who has Mac said that I'd like it. My son works for Apple and has had all Apple stuff from even before he started working there, and loves their stuff. Now I can see why!

    thanks

Obtain drivers for your printer and install them. :) I think this is where the problem hides. The OS recognized a generic printer and yours may be slightly different?

I'm using TextEDit. I plugged in the printer (HP PSC 1510) and the computer recognized it immediately and installed it in about a second. It prints fine; it's just the type sizes that are weird. "Preferences" lists driver 4.0.3 and, since it's a brand new computer, I imagine that the driver is up-to-date.

I can check on the HP website.

I just figured that Apple has its own way of designating type sizes?

Yea OSX ships with a ton of printer drivers ( a bit too many honestly), so it dhouldnt be a driver isssue, unless the printer is old.

Althugh it shouldn't make a difference, maybe try printing out a webpage, or something from word. Maybe its just textedit, i've never tried to print anything from it.

Although it does seem like a driver issue, and maybe drivers from hp's site would fix it, though id think apples would be good.

When I got my new Macbook, (switched from a Dell) I went to the HP website and downloaded all the necessary Mac software for my printer. It was easy, and everything works!

    Here's an update:

I downloaded the latest driver from HP.

Still, with TextEdit, the fonts come out WAY too small.

Next-- I downloaded OpenOffice and gave that a try. The type sizes were fine, just like on a PC.

I'm going to try TextEdit on a different HP printer, the one in my office. I'll see how that one works.

Anyway, this brings up the next question: any OpenOffice users? How does it compare to MS Office for Mac?
