Guys I want to move my entire system to a Solid State drive.

I have done time machine backups to an external USB HDD.

Can i boot Snow, run disk utility, and restore a time machine backup from the old HDD to a the newly formatted SSD and be cool?

Yes. It should work just fine.

Alternately (and likely faster), you could use SuperDuper! to clone the drive.

Just google both options and there are lots of tutorials.

I wouldnt advise cloning if you are switching to an SSD. A clean install will promise you ideal results the first time. Some have experienced performance problems in cloning.....

I agree with Les, for what ever reason cloning with SuperDuper caused major issues going from the HDD to 128GB SSD. Do a clean install and migrate the data over using the built in Apple tool.
