I'm looking for an IM client that will do several things. First, I need it to support Yahoo, MS Messenger, and AOL IM accounts. I also would like the program to check POP, Hotmail, and multiple Yahoo and GMail e-mail accounts.

Here's what's probably going to make things a little more complicated. I messed around with iChat a little and got myself and my wife's MBP to see each other's usernames via Bonjour. We've used it quite a bit to easily send files back and forth and text chat. Is there an IM client that can do all the stuff I first mentioned, plus Bonjour-based chat capabilities?

Adium will do the first thing...I don't think it can check all the email for you.

I agree Adium. What chat client checks all of those emails at the same time? And why on earth would you want to use a chat client to manage that many email accounts?

I really should have mentioned this in my first post, but I'm used to using Trillian on Windows. I'd use Trillian 50% of the time just for e-mail notifications, and just as much for chat. A lot of IM accounts already have e-mail tied in with it, so it kind of goes hand-in-hand.

So if Adium will work for all the IM'ing I need, do you guys have a suggestion for an e-mail notifier that will handle all of those account types?

Thanks for the suggestion of Adium, everyone. I'll see how well that works out for me.

EDIT: I realize that Cerulian Studios is working on a Mac version of Trillian, but it isn't out yet.

Ever think of using something like Mail.app with Growl. Or even forwarding all of your mail to Gmail and using Google Notifier with Growl? Just another solution.

Yeah, that's the way I get my email notifications, by GMail, Apple Mail and Growl.

I looked at Growl, and while there is a mail notification add-on, it only works with accounts that you can set up on the Macintosh Mail program. Secondly, I don't really like the idea of forwarding all the mail from all my different accounts to a single Gmail account (personally, I really don't even like Gmail).

I started messing around with Adium, and it's pretty good so far. I'll just look for some separate e-mail notification program.
