Hi all, I'm wanting some opinions on a good mouse for my new macbook pro. I'll be doing a lot of photoshop work with it so it needs to be pretty precise. As I'm new to the world of laptop mice I'm wanting to know stuff like should I go wired or wireless? and if wireless, should I go bluetooth or usb? laser or optical? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are a lot of threads on this. Try searching the forum.
What I have heard good stuff of is of the Razer Pro, which can be found here. -
Awesome laptops Notebook Evangelist
razer death adder is best for gaming but is wired. Oh by the way bluetooth is beter for wireless and also go with optical

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000. I got it a couple of days ago. It works good, if you want to run it without the bluetooth reciever here's the link:

I would highly recommend this mouse. It never loses the connection, wakes up with the Mac from sleep (you gotta give it like 2 seconds). The only minor problem I have is that when I turn it off I have to "reboot the mouse" by turning it off and turning it back on and click a few buttons, by then my mac recognizes it. Good luck dude -
Is laser more accurate than optical?
-
Im not sure, mine is very accurate, im pretty sure its zero latency. it's 2.4ghz bluetooth which is good

I have a couple of mighty mice for my kids. I have heard bad things about them so I have kept my Logitech LX7 usb wireless mouse. Bluetooth mice tend to have shorter battery life but they won't lead to a wart taking up one of your usb ports. I have heard people whining about "lag" with bluetooth mice. When I use my kids' mighty mice, I don't notice any issues.
I looked at the amazon page for the razer. It's bluetooth so I wonder about its battery life. There is a Logitech with a "nano" usb transceiver that will mean less sticking out of your notebook but still decent battery life. Take a look at M$.com and Logitech.com for mice and pick a few you are interested in then come back here and ask about them. I'm sure somebody has actually used them and can steer you in the right direction.
For precision, I would recommend a laser mouse. The LX7 I use has "invisible optic" as opposed to the older designs that had red or blue light coming from under the mouse. Nothing frustrates me like mouse problems when I'm working with Photoshop or TheGimp. I'm happy with my Logitech LX7, but I'm not sure if you are looking for something more "high end" or not. One factor for me was cost. The LX7 was under $50. I'm not a gamer these days and could care less about the things gamers care about when it comes to mice.
Let us know which mouse you end up with. -

Been about 2 months and it's still on the original batteries. -
Also, is the mighty mouse really as bad as the reviews say? I'm looking at either that or the Logitech V470 Laser Mouse.
-
My choice to stick with Logitech is I already own one. I was on ebay and amazon looking at the V470's a few minutes ago. They look a lot like the LX7 I have now so I'll wait. I also took a look at used Mighty Mice. The prices were all over the place so you might find a MM for the same price as a Logitech instead of the $70 it would set you back direct from Apple.
I also saw 2 MM in MicroCenter for $55. They were returns. Seeing 2 MM returns in one store and observing all this value fluctuation makes me hesitate, but my experience with the MM is good and the main reason I hold off is I'm used to two buttons and a wheel that pivots left and right, not one button and a tiny ball. Go in and play with one in the store before you buy. I use my trackpad when I'm away from home and it's slowly training me for one button (ctrl-click=two-finger-click=button2) so my 2-button excuse may be on its way out. -
I'd say go for a wired mouse. Don't ever need to worry about batteries. I myself use a Razer Diamondback 3G for all my CS3 work and it's very good. www.razerzone.com

i have been using my mighty mouse for over 6 months now with no major issues, I like using the mighty mouse of others mainly because of the ease of use of the wheel as a third mouse button, in programs like Maya, etc. much much easier to press than most scroll wheels on other mice, but I use a microsoft laser 6000 mouse at home on my futitsu all the time, although its scroll wheel is really dying.

Logitech VX Nano. Laser optics and super mini receiver. Just picked one up for my Thinkpad. It's suprisingly comfortable to use as well. Must be pretty odd to see a Thinkpad owner in the Apple realms, eh?

Thanks for all the info guys. I think I might just have to go in and try a few out and see how they feel.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i second the vx nano. excellent portable mouse.
-
I third the VX Nano. Fabulous battery life, very customizable, and worked perfectly ever since Logitech finally updated their drivers so that OS X doesn't Kernel panic every 2 seconds.
-
how's the nano on leopard? i heard people having trouble with the software or something
-
Only thing bad about the VX Nano is it's going to take up 1 of 2 USB ports on the MBP. Would probably be smart to just get a good USB hub though to use at the desk so you would have an unlimited number of available USB ports.
