    Hey guys :D

I have a Macbook Pro late 08 2.53 GHz CPU with the 9600 GT card and 4 gigs of RAM. I have Leopard 10.5.7 installed. When zooming in on my photos in iPhoto, it is really stuttery. I am sure it's not a temperature problem because the temp is about 36 degrees Celsius. It is even stuttery when running on the high performance setting. What can be the problem? How can I fix it? Help appreciated :)

You can try rebuilding your iphoto image library:
The following is taken from the iphoto help pages

    To rebuild your thumbnail cache:

Quit iPhoto if it is open.
Hold down the Option and Command keys and click the iPhoto icon to open iPhoto. (Keep holding down the Option and Command keys.)
A dialog appears, showing options for rebuilding your photo thumbnails.
Select one of the following checkboxes:
Rebuild the photos’ small thumbnails: This option rebuilds only the small versions of the thumbnails, such as those that appear in the photo browser when you are creating a book or slideshow.

Rebuild all the photos’ thumbnails: This option rebuilds all the thumbnails associated with a photo, including the small ones and the thumbnails that appear in a photo album or Event.

NOTE:For information about the remaining checkboxes, go to the iPhoto Support site and search for rebuilding the iPhoto library.
    iPhoto Support
    Click Rebuild.
Rebuilding the thumbnail cache may take several minutes.

This should speed things up (I hope)

I have like a gagillion photos. Plus I recently formatted the laptop so I don't think rebuilding the cache would do anything. Is the zoom stuttery for you too? Mine was like that since I bought the laptop...

Its possible that some of the thumbnails etc may have become corrupted... given that you have a large library this is possible, even if your laptop was only recently formated. It only takes a few minutes so that would be my first choice step.
Outside of that you could try repairing permissions, and running the general maintenance scripts. Apart from that not sure what else you can try... sorry

The zooming on mine seems fine, it does jump when you go from say 3 thumbs to 2 thumbs across etc, but otherwise its responsive and fairly smooth.

hope you have some luck fixin it

I tried repairing the image cache. It has speeded up the zooming significantly, but it's still not nearly as fast as iPhone or PS3 zoom :S

    Boo!! hiss...
