I thought it would be nice to spread the word.

I'm sure all of you are aware of the education discount of about ~10%, but I myself just found out recently about the ADC program apple has, GREAT DISCOUNTS. US Here
    International Here.
    Credits to Fatwallet Zilver.

It's basically 20% off the macbooks and powerbooks, but it's for students only, limited to 1 system and the membership costs $99. So essentially it's 15%... still better than 10%.

    • 13.3 MacBook (White, 1.83GHz, 512MB) ~$989 + $99 = $1088
    • 13.3 MacBook (White, 2.0GHz, 512MB) ~$1169 + $99 = $1268
    • 13.3 MacBook (Black, 2.0GHz, 512MB) ~$1349 + $99 = $1498
    • 15.4" MacBook Pro (2GHz, 512MB) ~$1,599 + $99 = $1698
    • 15.4" MacBook Pro (2.16GHz, 1GB) ~1,999 + $99 = $2098
    • 17" MacBook Pro ~$2,239 + $99 = $2,328

So it still is a better deal even after membership payments, and Apple sends you software updates... and from what I hear you can just ebay these to counter the 99$ membership costs :)

** At this momment it's actually cheaper to get the MacBooks with the regular student discount after the $99 membership charge for ADC. The MacBook Pros are still $100plus cheaper with ADC after the membership cost **

Again this is for students only  , because they do check.

Good to know for the students out there.

I don't think Apple runs a background check to see if you're a student or not when you order on their online store though.

Doh, my bad only linked the US page! Editting post to include international as well~_~,

From what I hear they put your orders on hold while they check your education status for this program :( But it still is a really good deal for students!! I personally am saving it for when the MacBooks come out.

They also require you to submit some sort of student identification number, which although can be frauded, shouldn't be abused.

For those with student discounts, it's discounts on alot more than just their notebooks and desktops. There are also discounts on their ipods and other stuff in their "store" tab.

I know it's been discussed above, but check out this page. They ask you to "Please fax a copy of your picture identification (drivers license, passport, student ID, etc.) along with a current or upcoming course schedule or other official proof of enrollment from your college/ university to the following location nearest you."

    Good luck,

I found one weird thing. I went on this page http://developer.apple.com/membership/usa.html, and then went to ADC Hardware Purchase Program Store and then click the mbp I wanna purchase...and then to the final payment page -- all no ADC member verification??!! Does that mean we can actually get this price without being a member? just curious...I haven't paid anyway.

It will go through, but they won't process the order without verification of your membership. Meaning it will get cancelled. :(

Added ADC Pricing for MacBooks.. note that Education discount is cheaper for MacBooks, but Pros are cheaper with ADC.

    Edu:
    $1049usd
    $1,199usd
    $1,399usd

I'm assuming you can tell which SKU is which :D

I don't think so, the ADC terms page says that "most" apple and third party deals don't work with ADC, and when you go to the USA ADC store and click on promos over on the side it does not list the iPod promo like it does in the normal Apple store, so I'm guessing you can't combine them.

I just ordered a MBP through ADC and so I'll share my experience.

I signed up for an ADC account and I emailed them asking if I could email them a scanned copy of both documents since I didn't have a fax machine and they said it was ok. You'll have to ask them first because you have to respond to the email they reply to that question from. After that it took about a day for them to approve and then I bought the Student Membership through the ADC login page, they then approved that a few hours later. After that I went through the ADC store and bought my macbook pro 15inch, the 20% is only off of some Mac/Apple products in their store. The $400 (after membership) off was pretty clutch. I'm still waiting for them to ship it since I modified it a little and they have to put the different ram and HD in.

They did charge sales tax since they have stores in my state which is the case. I did ask my local store if I could do the ADC program through the store but the employees there seemed to be unaware of the program and told me I'd have to do it online. The student discount in the store was $200 off the MBP and $179 mail in rebate towards an ipod and a $100 mail in rebate towards a printer, neither of which I had use for. So I guess if you are also in the market for an ipod and printer, the in store deal is better.

Hmm... I have a question. Does anybody know whether we get a discount on the AppleCare Protection Plan. It usually costs $399CAD, but I know that with the Student Discount it's $279CAD...

So if one was to use the ADC discount and receive no discount on the Protection Plan, it wouldn't be as good (at least from the looks of it).

Uhm, you can purchase the waranty seperately, even at a later time.

No ipod promo, but printer should work with ADC from what I've heard.

I don't know what apple's plans in regards to Leopard, but ADC sends you software updates as part of it's membership program. I'll take free OSX over paying $400 bucks on Vista anyday.

I just recieved an email back from Apple about combining the ipod promo with the ADC discount. The ipod promo only works through the educational store; not the ADC store. Oh well.....

It's only for stuff for sale through the Developer Hardware store. Last time I checked I think they did have refurbished units there, but they were at their regular price (which is already pretty low), not any additional discount.

    Hello
I was reading the "Membership Agreement" and I found this:

"5. No Warranty. You understand that all ADC Materials provided to you by Apple are supplied "AS IS" AND WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO THEIR PERFORMANCE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. To the extent that Apple makes available any products or product information, you understand that Apple is under no obligation to provide updates, enhancements, or corrections, or to notify you of any product changes that Apple may make, or to publicly announce or introduce the product(s) at any time in the future."

What does it means? Does it concern hardware (macbooks, etc)?
    Thanks.

An extra percentage off would be nice but if there is no Warrenty I think its better just to go through Apple. Also I think Apple is a more trusted dealer to go through.

That solely covers Apple Developer Connection materials (i.e. development software, pre-release OS's, developer guides, API documentation, etc.). It wouldn't apply to hardware purchased using a developer discount (the hardware you buy is covered by Apple's normal warranty, and you can get the extended AppleCare as well).

Apple is the "dealer". All you are getting with the ADC account is a special developer discount to use at a version of the Apple Store for developers. Other than that, there is no practical difference (outside of that hardware purchased through the developer store doesn't seem to be eligible for some of Apple's consumer deals like the free printer, etc.).
