When I try to remove/delete/move to trash
files on my external harddrive. It prompts the username and password
pop up box. I type in the password and hit "ok."
I then hear the noise you normally hear when a files get sent to the trash.
But the do not get removed, or sent to the trash.
Its like I can remove a file on my External Hard drive. HELP!

The hard drive is LaCie hooked up through firewire 800.
It is NOT my time machine drive.
It is formatted in Mac OS Extended.
I can move files around and open them and copy them. Just cant delete them.

    Right click->Get Info

Check the Ownership & Permissions to make sure you have read/write abilities. If you don't log into the admin account and change them accordingly.

I tried that. But still can't get it deleting files.
I have three items listed under "name" under "sharing and Permissions."
My computer name, and "everyone" is switched to "read/write" privilege.
However, the is an "unknown" also listed under "name." When I click "unlock" and then try to switch that one to read/write it allows me to click that, but simply wont register the change. I am logged on as admin.
One thing that is goofy. When the pop up box opens. It says my name, instead of the name I gave my computer. I am not sure if that is effecting anything.

That is odd. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with permissions. Try running a verify/repair permissions and verify/repair disk on it with Disk Utility.

If that doesn't work you may have to go into terminal to use the chmod command. Do a google search on the cd command(stands for current directory) so that you can get to your drive, then read a few tutorials on the chmod command.

Ok. I feel Kinda dumb. I can delete files. Just particular ones I cant.
The folders I created on my PC. Are locked. Just copied the files out. Sent to the trash and deleted the folders holding down "option." Worked like a charm.
