Whenever I click my desktop, the "Macintosh HD" icon will have this black border surrounding the icon of the hard drive and text below it. This just started. I rebooted (again, coming from Windows this is usually a solution) but it's still there. Any ways to stop the border. This is different from having the icon selected, in fact, it can be highlighted (selected) and still have this border.

Could it be that you have a colour label associated with the icon? Right click on it and click on the little X under Label.

Post a screenshot if it doesn't seem to have a label colour.

Turns out I pressed Command + F5 and turned on the speech option. I had my machine on mute, so I didn't hear my Mac reading me everything on my screen. The black box would just highlight the area or window on the screen to be read. I was trying the hard refresh, Control + F5, as you would on Windows, but this shortcut didn't translate to Mac.

    Thanks for the suggestions though!

It's probably because you spelled "borders" wrong.

I realized I misspelled it but was unable to change the original thread's title. I'm sure that was the reason for my problem, thanks...
