Hi I just got a 17inch base model MACBOOK PRO as my birthday gift.

But I really dont want it, actually want a 15.4 one with matte screen.

I've the receipt and it has been 1 week only, and still UNopened. So if I go store can get a store credit???

Because I can get ipod and 15.4 for that price. (2799+tax) ?

If it's unopened you can return it.

I know I can return it but this is a gift, if I return, they will issue a credit to my uncle's credit card (original purchaser).

Then, exchange it for a 15" mbp and ipod.

That's only a rumor at this point. You may be waiting longer for a MBP refresh/update.

The Macbooks will be getting refreshed before MBP's. You're going to be waiting till late next year for that.

Well, if you can explain to your uncle that you absolutely love the gift and thank him for it, but its just too large and you'd like to change it to a smaller one, I'm sure he'll understand .

Don't expect a new MBP in December...it would be totally unreasonable for Apple to throw out a December update.

First of all, there's nothing to update it with; the current MBP is using all the latest components, so there's nothing to update it with.

Secondly, December is right in the middle of the holiday season. Many people would have purchased gifts already, and Apple wouldn't want to anger their customers by telling them their gifts are outdated already, even before they are opened.

I'd say expect a new MBP in early 2008, possibly as early as January, with the Penryn release.
