The activity HP Communications is a needed driver for my printer but it's PowerPC and takes up quite a bit RAM (more than it needs to) so I often kill the process in Activity Monitor. But I was wondering if there was a way from stopping it starting up at all until it's needed? It doesn't appear in my Log-In items, so maybe there's way of doing it in Terminal?

I have one, but I use my HP for printing plain documents. But say I did just use my Canon one, that wouldn't stop HP Communications from starting up.

well it doesn't. When my printer's not plugged in HP Communications can't be seen in activity monitor on my computer.
