I think I am missing something here, maybe a piece of equipment or a boot to the head, but here goes.

I have a desktop pc with verizon dsl with one ethernet port on it. A few days ago my macbook arrived (yeah) and I want to set up a network where I can surf on either machine and print on either.

I bought an airport extreme base, figuring that it might be the easiest way to go.

I have tried several different things, but no go. Maybe a couple of pictures will help. My DSL modem is on top of the airport base. The blue cable runs between my pc and dsl and the yellow one is dangling idle connected to the airport internet WAN port right now, but I have plugged it in various locations along with the blue one.

Oh and while I am here. I have a usb printer canon mp 600. any thoughts on hooking that up so can print from laptop or pc?

Am I correct in thinking i need another ethernet port to connect to my dsl that way I can have both airport base and pc computer hooked up to the modem?

I think you should take the blue cable out of your PC and plug it into the port on the airport extreme that the yellow cables plugged into. Then plug the yellow cable into one of the three ports on the right of the extreme and the other end into your PC.

Ok your hardware needs to be in this order:
    phone line
    DSL Modem
    Ethernet
    AirPort Extreme
then the computers, one via ethernet the other wireless I assume.

So, plug that yellow one into the DSL modem and the WAN on your router. The use one of the Ethernet ports on the router for your PC.

As for the printer, use the USB on the AirPort, that is why it is there. I am not certain how to set it up in software, but it should be rather straightfoward.

    Thanks you two.

I think both of your solutions would have worked so I am nor going to say which one i used. It also required some reinstalling and reworking some settings, but finally it did work. I am writing this via my network internet connection. So thanks again.

Now if I could get my fingers used to this keyboard I would be all set. I imagine that will take a bit of time. I think typing this response has helped. At the first part of this reply, every word had to be retyped. Now it is not so bahd. :p

    Thanks again.
