hey guys i just recently bought a new 2010 model macbook pro.

now the issue that im having is that on the touchpad it gets very stiff towards the top near keyboard, so much that you can not click at the top of the pad or much beyond the center of the pad as even the middle of the pad is quite stiff.

has anyone else run into this issue.? i do not remember it being like this on my macbook white which has the same type of trackpad.

if anyone could help me out id appreciate it.

    thanks

You probably don't have a defective MBP trackpad - the hinge is set at the top of the trackpad, so there is no vertical movement there. There is reduced movement in the upper half of the pad because, again, the rotational distance is less due to be closer to the hinge.

There is probably more interior space under the button/pad on the newer white macbooks (the height is different) allowing greater rotation distance, which likely explains the difference you're experiencing.

Solution is to either get used to depressing the button toward the bottom of the pad, or else change to tap-to-click.

The only part that I can't click is the top 1/4 inch and I only noticed after reading this thread. Steve is still correct though because if you use the tap to click option the entire area is clickable. :D

My laptop experiences the same "issue", though it is probably normal for all uMBPs. The touchpad has to be secured somewhere.

I see many people with this problem.. but they don't really get how it works.

if you're moving a finger around and you want to click, you do NOT have to click with the finger thats moving. Let your finger up and click with a different finger. Pretend the bottom of the trackpad is a button, and click it with a different finger just like you'd click if a real button was there you had to push.
