I just setup my MB with an external monitor and speakers, however I'm getting static through the speakers seemingly when there is HD activity. Suggestions on how to get rid of this?

You can try to get some shielded cables (like a shielded extension, which might help out. That would tell you if its the cable itself, or if its an internal problem (I doubt it would be internal though)

You can also try to see if re-routing the cable would help (moving it from its current position) away from the hdd (Not sure where its located on the MB)

Also is it coming from the internal hdd, or an external one?

Mine does that sometimes too. I'm upgrading my whole sound system (logitech z 5500 and a toslink cable) so I'm hoping that'll fix the problem. As sulkorp said, try getting some nicer cables.
