    Hi everybody,

I have bought a MB alu 2.0GHz + 2Gb RAM DDR3 and I have noted that sometimes the boot time is longer in the morning or after a long s/d (more than 6hrs for instance) than after a 2-3 hrs s/d. Indeed the cold startup takes around 43-45sec whilst the 'warm' start may take about 32-35sec. Does this happen to you too?

2nd question: what do you think about ONYX? Is it worth making this automation or it is better to abandon these pc-attitudes on a mac?
    Thanks

Regarding the boot times, I do not notice the phenomenon you describe. However, I use an SSD which makes things pretty snappy.

Onyx is a good utility. Its not really needed, but it does offer a good place to automate a number of useful tasks. But running it regularly is not necessary.

Thanks for your reply. How long does it take yours to boot?
In spite of this, this morning mine booted in 30sec.....(and I s/d it yesterday at 11-12pm...)...weird....the misteries of electronics...

What about other users with normal HDD (mine is 5400rpm one)?

Last question: which options do you select on the automation page of onyx? Would you mind posting a snapshot with the automation page, to let me see which options you normally use?

    Thanks

I have a 500GB 5400RPM HDD. I powered it off and measured the time it took me from pressing the power button to the time it took to see the login screen. it took exactly 60s. My laptop is on 24/7.

Mine takes approximately 50s. Sometimes, it takes 1 minute and sometimes it takes 30s. I don't know why.

Thank you guys! It is the same for me: sometimes it takes 45sec, other times it takes only 30sec...I do not know why either....

if you restart back to back youll notice its much faster 2nd time. same as in pc
i think it depends on how much you do on each bootup.

One thing i find weird is that my dell vostro 1700 booted faster than my macbook pro. Perhaps it was because of its tweaked drivers.

QUESTION on ILIFE 09 installation over 08
Other question (I do not want to open a new thread for that): may I install Ilife 09 directly over ilife 08, which came-up with the mac when I bought it 2 weeks ago? Is ilife 09 going to overwrite directly ilife 08, or shall I remove this latter before?
    Thanks

It will overwrite it just fine, and you won't run into any problems. Just install it like any other program, and you'll be using iLife 09 in no time! :)
