    Start->control panel->Sounds and audio devices->sounds tab

    There you will find the directory of all the windows sounds. You can either disable the sounds or substitute the defaults with your own custom sounds.

    I swear I thought OS X didn't have a start button, or a control panel..... We have a dock and a System preference.

    That would be hilarious if you think about it, put in a Windows startup sound on a Mac OS X and go to a Mac group meeting and do that.

    he probably misread the title and forgot this is from an apple forum lol.

    As far as I know you probably can't change the startup/shutdown sound, actually that "dong" when you boot your mac up IS your startup sound :)

    I could have sworn that this was the Sony forum!
