    Does anyone remember/know?

Were there any Stand-alone applications that were included in a prior version of OS X that were actually removed by subsequent upgrade to a system? I don't just mean an upgrade version of the app replacing the old version. I mean total removal of an application no longer bundled.

An example:... Lion purportedly will no longer come with the Calculator Application. Will it (the SL Calculator) then be deleted when upgrading a Snow Leopard system to Lion?

I asked this question on Apple's own support forums, and it was deleted for being "speculative". I don't know that it was entirely speculative, if there is a history of doing it one way or another.

If it is deleted...can one re-install that one application from their old Snow Leopard system disk?

You do have the calculator widget (press F12), but I don't get why Apple eliminated their paint version?

The measly widget is a practically useless crapgadget, in relative terms.

The Full application is actually quite a nice RPN calculator, with a visible stack. it's an excellent teaching aid when I am instructing someone (or a group) on the benefits and use of RPN calculation entry. The visible stack produces a epiphany moment that can't be duplicated by holding a 15C up in the air and pointing.

But really, that's not what I was asking. The question is, ...are bundled applications preserved from the prior version of OS X, when upgrading to a newer version? Or, will Lion likely delete the applications?

Moreover, if deleted, can you re-install from the "old" system disk, single bundled applications? Or would you have to "pull" it off an old TM backup?

doesn't make any sense to remove Calculator... but moving the app over should work fine.

They did remove Sherlock, but there was no need to keep it.

Sherlock always seemed weird, even in OS 9. I get how they were trying to consolidate searching but I figure most people just browsed to the desired site via a web browser anyway.

I did try to use it though just because I like to be different :)
