For some reason, I can't seem to get the internal speaker for my macbook pro (core 2 duo, 15", 2.16GHz) to work. When I use headphones, it works but when I take the headphones out of the jack, there's a red light coming from my headphone jack and my speakers won't put out any sound. What do I do?

normally, it's a missing driver issue...but on os x, the appropriate drivers come on the disk...may be you could try to reinstall mac os x...

Looks like the audio jack switch has become stuck on your Mac. You can try reinserting and pulling out your headphones a few times until the light goes out, or you will have to send your machine to Apple.

yeah, this may also be the problem. this is a "switch" in the audio in which allows your mac to detect whether you headset is in or not...i suggest you bring it to an apple store if you cannot troubleshoot it...normally this is an easy problem to fix...

Seems like the problem fixed itself after a while (had headphones in then took out). It's good to know my computer's not a lemon. Thx

What's up with the red light though? It's kind of a bizarre way of warning people.
