I know there was a fix you could do to the finder.app with a space before folders to get it to sort with folders first then files in alphabetical order. That doesnt seem to work with 10.6.4

Is there anyway to do this? I now use a mac at work and we have so many files and folders with pdfs n such so sorting by kind does not work either.

naming folders with a space in front still puts them in the front of the list fine for me in 10.6.4...

if you use view -- arrange by Kind... it wont put folders at top (puts .apps first which really are folders.. but...) but it will put all the folders together in alphabetical order

That wont work. as i said i use this at work we have windows servers and thousands of folders and files. There is no "hack" or edits i can do in 10.6.4 to achieve that?

Guess I don't get why sort by kind doesn't work...

I don't know of any hacks that always put folders at the top no matter what.

because sort by kind will put file types before or inbetween folders. It doesnt keep the folders before files and in alphabetical order intact. For example since i have acrobat pro all pdf's get mixed in with folders.

You can add labels to them. Righclick>labels. Then sort by labels, it puts them at the bottom tho. But that's kinda like the top :p

Oh and putting a space and then arranging by name puts the folder first for me. :|
