I do not want this to go to a is AV for Mac needed thread. This thread is for those who want an AV program. I am not saying that you should install one.

Been using Sophos Free AV for Mac for a year and a half. It updated to version 8.x yesterday, and error message pops up that it is not working, and I noticed a 50% reduction in battery life. It used to have a negligible hit on battery life before. So I uninstalled it, and reported remaining battery life doubled.

    Anyone have the same problem?

Has anyone used Avast. Those it use up a substantial amount of battery life?

    TIA

last update of Sophos is a bit buggy... after last update the "on access" is bugged and not working for me right now. First time I've had a problem with it in years though, so I think I'll try a couple of things and then report it to them, and they should get it fixed.

After a reboot, Sophos seems to be running fine again.
