I've been thinking about picking up a new macbook pro to replace my aging Thinkpad, but I need some advice.

I haven't read this section of the site before, but I have a quick question. If any could redirect me to another thread or just answer it here: what components can the user replace (without going to an Apple Store) on the newest Macbook Pros (13", 15") models? Also, is the fact that there is only one audio input a big issue for anyone?

    Thanks,

You can replace the HD and RAM in the new 13" MBPs without voiding warranty, although do note that you will have to physically open up the laptop by removing some screws and some covers.

The single audio in/out jack would not result in an issue for most people, although there will be a problem if you want to have both a mic and headphones which use the 3.5mm jacks plugged into the laptop at the same time.

If you pretty much have a gaming headset then it will be a problem.

So the 15" models do not allow me to change the RAM or HD aftermarket? It's not so much about gaming, but I work with sounds and recordings quite a bit too. I guess I'll just have to use a USB headset.

    Thanks!

if you get a headset made for the iPhone, that has built in Mic, that works good in the port for both hearing and Mic at the same time... but I prefer using USB headsets when not on the move.

Thanks for all the help. I think I'll just consider the 15" model that still has two distinct audio in and out jacks.
