I haven't posted here in years but I felt that I should post in the mac forums cuz...well I bought a stock MBP 15' from the store last Sunday and I have to say...as an ignorant Windows user (not bashing Windows, but stating my lack of knowledge regarding Mac and OSX) I have to say I am really impressed for what this machine is!!!!

Primarily I use it for online classes right now and MAN have all the little OSX features made my productivity sky-rocket! The 4 corners deal, multi-fingered approach to the touchpad, short cuts and so on. Its been REALLY nice to do home work on this laptop vs my massive (honestly, my gaming rig :p) 17' sli 12+ lbs desktop replacement.

The battery life is a whole new experience to me as well!! It rocks!!! Second day I used for for over 4 hours (light internet, Btooth was on, few youtube videos here an there but mostly my online class) and if I remember right I still had close to 30% left! That was something I have never been able to do before with the hardware I bought before.

I also liked how (during the beta) I could actually play Starcraft 2 just fine! Yeah she got hot, but if I am going to game for hours, thats when my big rig comes in anyways. But on the go I can do decent gaming.

I am not a new "never again windows guy" but now I look at it like I want both types of hardware / software in my computer arsenal and this thing has already found its place!

I don't know, just wanted to say that I finally get what most of you talk about in regards to why Macs are nice! I never hated them, but I never knew why I should appreciate them either and after owning this for just under a week I can already see why these things rock!

Anyone have any suggestions at all for me to look at/learn/freeware (not looking to pirate) anything like that?

Had my first mac for about a month now. I feel the same as you mate.

Its similicity and high performance rolled into one. Its not as flexibale as a Windows7 system, but does everything I need nicely! Any the Magic Mouse is brilliant!

Above all else, Im a sucker for eye candy!

    Congrats.

For me, the guides here in this forums (switchers' guides etc....) were very helpful but honestly the more you play around with OSX yourself (hands-on) the more you'll learn it's strengths and you'll start to appreciate it more.

As a windows user (I presume you're an Outlook user) start using the Mail/iCal/Address Book combination, I now could not care less about Outlook anymore.

There are a ton of good freeware software for Macs with some threads in this forum if you want to search them, but frankly after trying so many I prefer the paid ones (like 1Password, Toast Titanium, RipIt, iWork etc...). It just depends on your needs and budget.

    Enjoy your Mac. :)
