Im ready to buy one then, hell i would buy it now, the 4850 is what i need for gaming, but i would kick myself if they came out with something slightly better in there say 4870, that could really make the difference in high end games. I ready to just give up console gaming and the honestly my macbook pro is good for games, but if im replacing my consoles i need something better than the 8600.

As they were just updated, I doubt there will be anything done for sometime... and definitely not by August.
This is usually a time when apple updates its mbp line for the back to school promo.... and everything seems to suggest that it will be the same this year.

ps The absolute most you could hope for is maybe a cpu speed bump.

Heck, it's a lot better than the 9400M in a desktop, so I'm pretty sure that's going to be your strongest GPU for a while... ;)

Probably about the time notebook i7's are out. And I would not hold my breath for anything more powerful than something like the 4850.

If Apple updated the GPU they wouldn't move over from the HD4850 to the HD4870. If that were the choices they wouldn't bother changing the GPU in the next refresh at all.

With Windows 7 and DX11 coming, the next GPUs that have enough change to warrant the effort of a refresh are DX11 generation parts. I haven't heard a concrete schedule although Microsoft is supposedly pushing Windows 7 through this year. The next iMac refresh will probably happen in October/November. That'll be in time for Christmas, mobile quad core Nehalem and DX11 GPUs. August is too soon for a refresh. I believe Apple's turnaround time for refreshes is around 9 months.
