I had a 2010 MBP, within 6 months of use the keys started to accumulate a sheen/shine on them (as if the matte surface was wearing off).
I would like to avoid this the second time around. How does one keep their keys from wearing off like that?
Using a keyboard cover is out of the question, is there a certain cleaning routine that I should adopt?

Cleaning it makes it worse.
External keyboard.
Tell your body to stop producing oils.
Physically remove the skin from your fingers. -
I don't need an external keyboard as I really don't intend to use it in clamshell mode, I already own a desktop and intend to use the Macbook pro as a Laptop. -

Wear mittens.

Speech to text software.

Have you tried a Keyboard skin?

to prevent your keys from wearing, just don't give them any clothes, easy.
on a separate note, every once in a while i spray lens cleaner on a cloth and wipe. lots of dirt comes up. nothing bad happens. -

I usually just buy a keyboard cover - either the silicon ones on ebay for $5 or if you want something nicer, the moshi keyguard.

Get a silicon skin but dont get the one that have black keys made on them get the clear one works better with the back light.
I had both the clear one is better....
So I just got my 2011 MBP ... How do I keep the keys from wearing?
