    Hi

I'm a bit confused with Apples update policy, snow leopard will be released in September, Apple state that if you buy a mac after 8th June 2009 you can get it for $9.95. Will this deal be available for the UK aswell? Should i wait to buy a mac till snow leopard is released and is preloaded on a mac, or should i buy now and wait for the update. I dont need the mac till September.

You are welcome! :) BTW,if you buy it now, during the upgrade you wont lose any data/programs,it will be like service pack install!

    Good luck with your purchase!

I have a customized desktop, you know dock, icons etc. Will upgrading to Leopard erase my changes to the system?

Yes, just like when you update a certain application, its icon reverts to the original (the one it comes with).

You'll have to do it all again after installing Snow Leopard...

Ah crap. May not even bother with getting it then. May upgrade later. Is it actually a huge jump? I know its 64-bit, but is there anything else?

Also, would the icons change whether I use the software update, or update through the DVD?

There is going to be many additional features "under the hood" per se, such as Grand Central Station and OpenCL, which will be faster and more component efficient. ;)

Probably a big jump as far as internal upgrades, but not a big jump for visuals.

So, Im going to get a 13" MBP in like 3 weeks. I will be upgrading to 4GB RAM and get a WD 320GB 7200RPM HDD, so, should I upgrade to Leopard or not? Will it be faster? I think it will be cause its 64 Bit, but if its no big deal I wont both upgrading.

I am not so sure that you will notice any major difference at first. Wouldn't 64 bit applications and/or OpenCL capable applications be needed to see an appreciable difference in speed between Leopard and Snow Leopard(or any 32 vs 64 bit OS)?

Yes, from my understanding of 64 bit systems then yes. I don't see the reason not to upgrade. 64 bit is the way of the future and I would be worried if I don't upgrade, it most cost more down the road...

Yeah, it's capable of running BOTH 32 bit and 64 bit applications side by side. ;)

Wouldn't you be able save your dock and settings to MobileMe and reinstall them after the upgrade? If you don't have MobileMe just use the free trial period to do it.

is this a upgrade DVD? you need an existing OS to upgrade to Snow and cannot do a fresh install with it?

No, you can definitely do a fresh install. It is its own, new operating system.
