At the moment I have a Sony Handycan DCR-SR90 camcorder, which as a built in 30GB HDD.
This saves movie clips in the .mpg format, which is not natively compatible with Quicktime etc. Thus I have installed VLC Player which plays the video fine. I have also found a way to convert the files to .mov files for editing with iMovie.

However, Im after a simpler solution. I want a new small handheld camcorder, which saves HD quality video straight onto a SDHC card (I plan to get a 32GB card). I then want to be able to remove the card, put it in my MacBook Pro, and just view/edit movies without having to do anything further.

    Any suggestions?

uhhh... my quicktime plays .mpg just fine... weird...

Macbook Pros have a built in SD card reader... just check its specs page to make sure its compatible with the card your using in your camera.

Most cameras now will record in h264 or avchd, and both of those are supported in osx. I'm not sure if avchd is importable into imovie, but I know it is with final cut, though I dont know if you have it.
