On my older PC, I used to love running media player classic home cinema + LAV Filters + madVR + smooth video project

smooth video project allows any low FPS movie to play @ 60 FPS and give superior smoothness...

Is there such an app for the mac? and where do I get it from?

Additionally, which is the best video player to play all my movies downloaded from the net which are like FLV, MP4, divx, 3ivx, etc

please help, this is my first day on a mac

VLC is a great option on win/mac/linux. It's a standalone media player that supports pretty much anything you can throw at it.
