    Hello,

I finally took the plunge and bought a new Macbook Pro (early 2008 model). Sometimes I seem to smell something while sitting in front of the machine. I have read about the Mac Pro possibly emitting some toxic fumes but I wonder if there are also similar known issues with the Macbook Pro. So far I couldn't find any reliable information. I bought the early 2008 model for the matte screen, but if there are fumes, that could convince me to buy the late 2008 model instead. I still have about 6 days to return this one if necessary. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    Chris

I would bring it to Apple's attention.

I still remember how nice my (1st) Macbook smelled for the first few weeks.

Lol that's probably some Vista Freak at Microsoft writing stuff like that.

I know the smell you are talking about - it's called new computer.

THe smell is coming from inside an aluminum body casing that is warming up from the heat - which is normal of course.

Have you ever heard of the "New Car Smell" ???

LoL he must have screwed up sense of smell.

    yes... hypno gas..

i think this is perfume... like the sort of things they put on cars. which is where i think steve jobs and co. got the idea from. car company.

my first macbook (early coreduo model) has hypno gas so strong i could smell it rooms away from where i put it.

my current computer; the Santa-Rosa MBP, has a good balance of the fume, infact; i wouldnt mind a stronger dose :p. steeeve joobbs foooor preesident!

It's a new chip in there for Smell-a-Vision...have you tried a fall scene or a cooking show - yummy.

Worth a call - who knows if you're being paranoid (I'm pretty good at that) or if it's really something to worry about.

If the smell is not that of burning silicon or plastic, I would not be too worried. You could try returning it and getting another one if it bothers you.
