It seems like the browser scrolls up and down pretty slow (both firefox and safari) when pages feature animated ads (which is most webpages nowadays). Is this normal? It's pretty choppy when I scroll up and down the pages. :(

    Yeah happens to me too.

It doesn't happen with Firefox in Windows though.. So yeah, that's something to think about..

Hah I remember complaining about this (and I still do :p).

For Safari at least (not sure about FF), you can adjust scroll speed in System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse. If you uncheck "Smooth Scroll" in System preferences -> Appearance, it'll also make things less choppy. This'll help slightly anyway (but scroll speed will still be uneven at times).

As an alternative to FF, you might try Camino. It doesn't suffer from the same scrolling issues.

Shiira and Omniweb don't suffer from those issues as badly either (although they still do to some extent), but Camino's still the fastest. (Of course, OW can take up to like 400MB of RAM, so you might see slowdowns in other areas if you're low on RAM).

FF in windows is insanely fast at rendering and scrolling :D

You also might try Opera on OSX too.
