I'm going to college for video and i need a mac. I want to save a few hundred dollars. I was just looking at the apple store and was thinking to myself and wondering if i should just get a refurbished macbook pro and the 3 year warranty? The way i look at it it will be about the same price plus i have a warranty if anything happens? Would any recommend this or not?

Well you won't get the $200 education discount with a refurb. Buy a new MBP through apple's education store and get the free (after MIR) iPod touch. Sell the iPod and you will end up well below the price of the refurb. AppleCare is a must as a one year warranty is ridiculously short for such an expensive laptop. Laptops are much more likely to break than desktops considering they get moved around a lot and their cooling systems are barely sufficient. If you are out of warranty it is not just economically feasible to repair an apple product (you are better off getting a new one). For example, if your logic board fails, parts and labor will set you back ~$1200. You can pick up AppleCare through eBay ~$170.

Thanks man yeah i picked up a new MBP for only like 100 dollars rather than a refurbished one since the student discount gave me 200 bucks off.
