Hey all. So, I find my self in need of a new computer. I've always liked apple products. I've owned numerous iPods, but never an apple computer. I REALLY like the looks of the MBP and Leopard. Thing is, I do like to do some gaming, and I know that the vast majority of games currently are not released for Mac OS. Now, I know that I can run Vista via bootcamp, but is this really a viable solution for gaming? Other than that, the computer will mostly be used for school, web surfing, music, videos, all that kind of thing. Any thoughts or opinions? After the experience I've had with my last Dell, I think I'm ready to switch. Thanks guys!

Firstly, a notebook is not a TRUE viable solution for games. A desktop computer will have or can be customized with the best GPU to fit the games. A notebook will always be limited. If you are a casual gamer than yes, by all means get the Mac. October looks to be the next refresh so wait around, there may be a better GPU in the next line.

Well Bootcamp runs windows natively so in windows, a MBP will perform the same as an equally speced PC

Yep, World of Warcraft runs perfectly in Mac OSX. Right now though I got it installed on the Vista partition on the MBP and it runs marvelously there as well.

I've also played Call Of Duty 4 on the MBP, but had to turn down some of the settings to get a decent framerate going. CoD4 at medium graphics is very good.

I can deny that :) I paid the same amount as a MacBook Pro. I can upgrade my components :D. I have desktop-equal gaming power.

You could always live with BootCamp but I think its a pain to partition the hard drive and having to restart to play a game. For the usual stuff, Mac OS can do the job =]. If only Psystar made some laptops, then I wouldn't hesitate to recommand that if it suits your needs :p

I like my Mac and all as something different, but I don't know that I'd say it's a vastly better experience than Windows. Just my own personal opinion. If gaming is a primary consideration, I'd vote for a PC. You can get something better for gaming at a lesser price.

It depends how important gaming is to you. With the same amount of money, you will ALWAYS be able to find a windows-based laptop that is BETTER (usually a lot more) than the macbooks HARDWARE-WISE. You pay a huge premium for the brand and the OS with macbook (pros).

In my humble opinion, Windows also is much much better productivity-wise especially with the Office 2007 (which pwns all other versions). Aesthetics mean very very little to me but i quite prefer vista to xp (duh) or OSX (HERESY!!!).

For basic and everyday usage, there's no way Windows can beat Mac since OS X needs less maintenance but Windows can do exactly the same, except you'll have the clean and defrag every week or so. Now, if you add more variables like the price, specific applications and hardware, you'll have to take in consideration pros and cons from each platform. I personally prefer Windows since I game and install lot of apps, but I don't hesitate to recommand to my friends some Macs if they don't even know what defraging is. For the desktop, the price is no problem (for now) since Psystar is arround but for laptop, you'll have to shell out more than the PC average price.

Don't forget that 99% of computer users doesn't know Clevo and like, 90% of users here doesn't know them either. Btw, those are random numbers.

oh come on people, you guys gotta stop being so defensive in this forum, the OP is asking which would fit his/her needs better, a Mac or a PC. That's a legitimate question, and a legitimate answer to it should include the strenghts each platform offers, which is what I've seen so far.

There's no battle here, at least yet. don't fuel it.

EDIT: as for the matter in question here, I agree with some of the previous posts. If you really want a Mac buy it, but if gaming is a priority it wouldn't be the best choice.
