Here's what gave me the idea: http://gizmodo.com/5516758/ipad-proves-ideal-cat-plaything

How scratch resistant is the screen? What about biting? If they both wanted to use it and were fighting over it and it got pushed off a table, could it survive? If one of them took a long nap on it would it overheat? How easy is it to get cat hair off of? What are some good apps? Thanks.

Declawing is evil. It's like cutting off half their finger.

That made me smile, He actually seemed to know where to hit to make sounds. But his screen is probably scratched :|, You could always get a invisible shield if you really wanted to let your cat use it.

I meant the YouTube video! The biggest thing that irritates me about the iPhone and iPad is lack of flash playing ability. Just makes me have to wait for the HP or Microsoft competition. That's all I'm sayin'.

The iPad plays YouTube videos just fine, embedded in websites or through the app. It's just like the iPhone/Touch, the browser knows it's a YouTube video and pulls up the built-in YouTube player.

    This...

If it had an invisibleSHIELD on it then it'd be 100% safe for your cat to use. And it definetely seems like a very fun toy for it (if an expensive one).

Feel free to watch the videos on apple's website since they have one specifically about the youtube videos. There is no way you could have used an iPad and think that it cannot view youtube video.

Well, all the youtube videos were black screens and clicked on it and it never played anything, just a big black box. Also doing a search "can ipad play youtube" you get a lot of "no" answers and a lot of conflicting information.

And not really only YouTube, but flash video sites like Hulu, and a number of of other places. See my other post here asking about the iPad there's already debate on whether it plays or not...

There isn't much to debate about YouTube. Here's a link to apple's site explaining the youtube app for iPad. http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/youtube.html

Flash video is not supported and Apple has been straight forward about that. A search on the internet only shows that there is a lot of misinformation and people who would rather ask questions on a forum than to just go to the source for an answer.

Well I went to youtube.com and it didn't work. The Apple rep said that you couldn't play youtube videos. He mentioned nothing about an app (which is ridiculous to have an app for a website btw), so, yes I went to the source. I thought Apple reps would be knowledgable, I guess I was wrong.

100% honest truth. It was at Best Buy's Apple section but the guy was wearing apple clothing, hovering around the apple section, so assumed he wasn't just some BB lackey. I just started toying with it because I was curious about one for my mom, and so visited a few sites, played with a few apps, and went to youtube and hulu and nothing. That's about the time the apple rep started breathing down my neck and asked him about it.

Is this the proper Apple issued apparel?

Dog plays with iPad, Yup, dogs are stupid.

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/H3xdcx2WUcU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/H3xdcx2WUcU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='640' height="385"></embed></object>

Also @HTWingNut If you talked to a actual Apple rep at Apple or on the phone, you wouldn't of gotten wrong answers, 99% of people that work at best buy don't know anything.

It was an Apple rep at Best Buy, not a BB employee. They have an Apple section with Apple stuff laid out in their own little area and usually there is an Apple rep there.

OK, I'll buy one for them. A few more questions. How much storage do you think they need? Do they need 3g? They rarely leave the range of our wi-fi, but what if we go on a trip?

If this iPad is really going to be for you, just say so. And if you feel you want 3G and will use it on a trip go for it. The cats will not be checking their email or browsing the web, or will they...?

Isn't doesn't the iPad use the same glass that you know, take forks, knives and keys without lasting damage? I don't think cat claws will do any lasting damage.

Essentially vinyl nail covers that go over their claws.......although I can't see them lasting too long before being chewed off.
