    It's still ridiculously quick.

My iPod came from China within 4 days and the Macbook within 5.

Still I can't imagine it would be cheaper to outsource a ram and hd installation overseas over shipping. Or even if it was, that it would offset the cost of international shipping. So if it was based in the states the shipping would be cheaper and faster. It would make even more sense to have the local apple retailers take care of the local orders and that would cut down on storage costs.

Anyways, this largely just stems from the fact that I'm a little impatient waiting for my new pimp ass computer to come.

lol, I'm in the same boat as you! I bought my macbook pro on the 21st, I got my iPod on the 22nd, and my printer on the 23rd, and my macbook pro 17" isn't supposed to arrive till the 29th!

I'm not sure about my stuff, I just ordered it thursday night. a Macbook and an ipod. I upgraded to 2-3 day shipping, somehow I'm interested to see if they can get the macbook over here that fast, the ipod is already in the US so I see no problem with that, plus I could care less about the ipod because im giving it away.

I noticed that there is a delay in shanghai right now ("its out of their control"), they better still make sure it gets here on time or I'll be calling apple for a refund on the extra money I paid for faster shipping.

Sort of shady of apple. They said it would ship the 21st latest but all they did the 21st was contact FedEx and it was actually physically shipped the 22nd, sat in Shanghai for about a day and a half, then when it was finally in American hands (via Alaska) it finally has picked up the pace and is finally in NJ. I imagine it'll make it to Upstate New York by monday.

Wow, what did you order now? I ordered a macbook but it went a different route, it went straight to memphis, TN after Shanghai. I did pay extra for 2 day though, dunno about you.

I ordered a MacBook Pro which I upgraded the harddrive and downgraded the ram with standard ground shipping. I wasn't aware it would be making the journey it was. If all goes well it should be waiting for me on my doorstep when I come home from work tomorrow!!!

Hey, I was about to order my Macbook Pro through the ADC store with the One-Time-Student Developer-Hardware Discount and while reading the Terms of Agreement, it said to allow from four to six weeks for your product to ship. Was this true in your case? Thanks :)

No such delay like that, I imagine that was a clause to buy them extra leeway when the macbook pros were first introduced and they were struggling to fill orders. While I feel they are a little sluggish getting it through to me, certainly not on that scale.

Did they charge you tax on your purchase? Since it's coming from out of the country, isn't it true that you don't have to pay tax? Thanks :)

Pretty much everything in the USA comes from China, and yet they still charge sales tax. I got charged it. Like I said if you get charged or not is if Apple has a corporate store in your state or not.

    Yes. Nine of them.

So Texas has to pay Sales tax if you purchase from apple.com

Hm.. I signed up for my ADC Student Membership yesterday and sent in my identification/schedule before I recieved the automatic e-mail to send in my information but my Membership is still 'Pending'. It's been about 30 hours since I sent in my information, how long did it take for your membership to be verified and change from 'Pending'? Thanks :)

I dont do ADC, its pointless if your doing it for a Macbook because you end up saving more money with just the education discount, the MBP on the other hand is a good idea for the ADC.

Plus I don't have patience for that kind of thing, when i want something I want it now!

    cheers

I'm doing it for the 2.16Ghz Macbook Pro, and for $500 its worth the wait :) Yeah, the 20% discount is really only on the iMacs/PowerMacs/Macbook Pro's since they are considered 'Developer Products'

    Hey,

I just ordered my CTO Macbook Pro and they said it would arrive here on the 14th, any ideas if Apple updates their arrival estimate or if arrival estimates differ if/when they give you a tracking number? This is actually the first time I've bough anything from Apple online so does the Order Status page change as it travels from key checkpoints?

    Thanks :)

Hey, sorry to not responding sooner.

It shipped one day later then they said (technically) but it did arrive on the date they estimated. They did send a tracking number promptly and what was nice was that you don't really need to remember it because when you log in through the adc connection and go to the tracking, it stores the Fedex tracking number there.

You'll get two boxes, one containing your new pimp ass computer and the other containing lots of unnecessary packaging for a letter thanking you for joining the developer connection and some cds.

    Thanks for the reply dude.

Aww, so I really have to wait two weeks for my new pimp computer? lol eh.. maybe I should've paid for the 2 - 3 day shipping but I'm not so sure if that would've made that big of a difference

You might make out a little better then I. I remember checking the tracking number like 3 times a day and it did note two one-day delays (or more specifically "exceptions beyond our control") throughout its trip from Shanghai China to Alaska to California to New York. One thing that is sort of odd is the developer package I believe came from Apple HQ in California while the MBP came from China but they arrived together in the same shipment. Basically two seperate shipments that arrived together. Good luck and think of it as a small test of your patience.
