I thought this was only happening to me, but after reports of many other users online, it seems that after the SL upgrade, many Mac users have been witnessing this "service battery" message that displays when you hover over the battery icon.

My mac was bought in Jan 2008, but i do not think it's in bad shape.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is Apple planning to address this?

Just want more information, that I'm sure you guys are aware of..

The message is a brand new feature in 10.6 and amounts to, more or less, Apple's attempt at being helpful to let the average consumer know when their battery performance has decreased to a point where it is sub-optimal and that you could benefit from a replacement.

If you're still happy with how it's performing, there's no reason to replace. It's just that the majority of Apple users (not those around here, but the general public) aren't tech-savvy enough to figure out how to assess battery life/wear/performance issues.

    ^^
    I understand that.

What I'm trying to state that users are stating that this message is yet another error of SL.

If you search ("service battery" message) on google, this is one of the many articles.

It seems these statements are cohesive, and rather than this being simple communication from Apple, it is in fact reporting your battery as needing to be replaced when it is perfectly fine? See where i'm coming from now?
